A tragic event has shaken the community in Vancouver during what was supposed to be a day of joy and cultural celebration.
On April 26, 2025, during the Filipino Lapu Lapu Day Festival, a 30-year-old driver crashed an SUV into a crowd of attendees, resulting in at least 9 fatalities and several injuries.
The incident occurred around 8:14 PM at the busy intersection of East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, an area packed with festival-goers celebrating Filipino heritage.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos, with people rushing to assist the injured before emergency personnel arrived on site.
Authorities confirmed that the driver has been taken into custody.
An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the crash was accidental or intentional.
Statement from the Vancouver Police Department:
“We are deeply saddened by this horrific tragedy. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and the wider Filipino community. We ask the public to allow the investigation to proceed and to keep the victims and their loved ones in their thoughts.”
